Conservation (and fishing)

Conservation Committee
Committee Chair: Dave Weikers

LSCA's Conservation Committee is focused on reestablishing Lake Spivey as a premier fishing lake. Dave Weikers hired American Sport Fish to perform a fish count to verify the fish population. The results were that the fish population was out of balance... not enough feeder fish and an overpopulation of bass. Acting on that information LSCA is in the process of adding Threadfin Shad. They also emphasized that any Bass caught that are under 14" be removed from the lake. LSCA's will reevaluate the fish population again next spring to ensure the actions taken are revitalizing the Bass population.

In Addition, David Smith, Greg Campbell and Tom Chastain volunteered their time to build (20) permanent fish habitats and (9) Honeyhole trees in 2014. They have been place in various spots around the lake. Their GPS position and a map were recorded and are available to members at the following link: Map of Fish Habitats
